She explains that we all have two modes of thinking: the default mode and the direct mode. The default mode, often referred to as "autopilot," is where we spend nearly half of our day, according to Dan Gilbert of Harvard University. This is the mode where our thoughts drift, and we go through our day without much conscious thinking. On the other hand, the direct mode is where we are present, in the moment, and deliberately choosing our thoughts. The key to a fulfilling life lies in mastering the skill of being a deliberate thinker.

The Default Mode Network (DMN) is a series of neurons in your brain that automates certain thought patterns.
